For some reason I can't fathom, this section is always written in third-person. I'm not so self-indulgent and just can't stomach that concept, so first-person it is. This section is also text-heavy and has very few pictures (unusual for a photography website, but such are my quirks!)
About Pilopix
COVID-19 has changed the lives of so many people in such drastic ways and I count myself lucky to only have had to change careers. From professionally flying the Airbus A320 as a pilot who also loves photography, to becoming a full-time photographer also trained as a professional pilot, life has been nothing short of eventful.
Pilopix was born out of my passion for creating memories from everyday lives - those in-between moments that are nothing extraordinary at first glance but full of surprises, revelations, peace, joy, and every other emotion we experience as human beings. Photography is the opportunity to relive these fleeting moments forever.
About Me
A pilot by day and a self-taught photographer by night is the more superhero way of putting it. Still, you might wonder - should I even bother with this guy? What’s his story anyway? This is where I’ll ask you to sit down, grab a cup of coffee (I love a flat-white, which you must try if you haven't) and take a flight with me.
Learning to fly professionally was my first love growing up, until I became acquainted with a camera more than 20 years ago and photography became my second passion. As a teenager, I was infatuated with a fully-automatic 35mm plastic-fantastic camera - the kind that you get your young nephew when nothing else in the store catches your fancy. Luckily for my aunt (and myself), it was the perfect gift.
Having taken the long route in photography, I've been dedicated to this craft-form. Learning by myself was a slow, arduous slog. I relied on articles, books and blogs which was the way of online learning when I began my deep-dive a decade ago. Today it's about YouTube tutorials, IGTV, etc. I experimented with family, on holidays and even as a pilot; the camera has been a constant companion.
Flying an aircraft and photography are similar in that both rely on elements of technical data, rules, procedures - the kind of stuff practice makes easier, and repetition makes faster and more efficient. It also involves aesthetics, a more free way of thinking as well as the ability to constantly be creative - things that a professional pilot wouldn’t ordinarily place huge emphasis on - unless in times of emergency, and flying out of tricky situations. That small difference allowed me to keep getting better at photography. It has all come together and helped me improve my photography to a point where I know I can offer something of value to you.
What kind of photography do I love?
Landscapes and nature are (and will probably always be my first love). Portraiture and shooting in the studio - still life, products, food are what really get my brain ticking. The challenge of working with a blank canvas to create something that brings joy, happiness and excitement, not to mention long-term value to my clients is intensely gratifying.

What keeps me going?
Every safe landing gave me great satisfaction and every happy photography client gives me great joy. It's like a drug, and I'm sure other photographers would tell you the same thing - no wonder why so many of us choose this profession.
THANK YOU for visiting my website, and even more so if you're considering my services. It would be my absolute pleasure to speak with you personally (in- person or over a call) to understand who you are, where you're coming from, and what you might be looking for. You never know, I might be able to guide you to someone else I feel would suit you more than myself, or you may discover that the opposite is true! Either way, you stand to gain and I hope to establish faith, trust, and gain your confidence - things difficult to easily find today.
My name is Mukul and I look forward to helping you create memories you will cherish.
